It’s here! It’s fiiiinally here… Spring. Ah yes, the time of the year where we’re woken up by the sun, the grass starts peeping through the snow and we get to freshen up our home decor. While it’s fun to swap out toss cushions, or change that feature wall, we can’t forget about the outside of our home too! One of the easiest ways to do that is with a seasonal wreath! To be honest, I couldn’t find any wreaths I loved (granted I didn’t look too hard), so I thought, why not make one! I was at Michaels looking for artificial succulents to make a terrarium and decided to take advantage of their amazing 50% artificial florals sale! Talk about right place right time. Michaels often has these deals, you’ll just have to be persistent in checking their weekly specials!
While at Michaels, I started mixing and matching different flowers but just didn’t feel quite right about making a floral wreath. I decided I was going to make a green wreath instead – something a little more unique and trendy. In total, this wreath cost me around $50 whereas the pre-made ones they were selling were upwards of $60. I know it’s not that big of a difference, but this way you get exactly what you want… plus it’s fun!
Here’s what you’ll need: Wire cutters, a hot glue gun, a twig wreath, artificial foliage of different shades and sizes and a few branches of ‘other elements’ like pussy willows and small flowers.
Step 1: Start with the greenery that will give you the fullest coverage. Snip off the bundles with your wire cutters and place them in the wreath like you see in the picture to the left. Secure the greenery with your hot glue gun. Continue with the other greenery. Tip: Be sure to alternate the different leaves and shades. I left the leaves on the far right (pictured above) for last to fill in any gaps.
Step 2: Weave in your ‘other elements’. This is where you can get really creative – I’ll leave this part up to you for placement! Tip: Be sure to decide what part of the wreath is the top, this will help with your placement. Like step one, I placed each element on the wreath individually before securing it and moving onto the next one.
Step 3: Fill in any gaps there may be with the remaining stem of foliage. Even if there aren’t any gaps I used these leaves to add more depth to the wreath by peeping the leaves out from the back and insides.
All in all this wreath took me around 45 minutes to assemble. It’s a quick and easy project… especially when you have help from the furry kind. Most importantly it will freshen up your entrance way for the warmer months ahead!
