There are two kinds of people in this world – those who love holidays and those who would just… rather not. No matter which category you put yourself in, this post is for you! I personally love holidays, but sometimes am just lost as to how I should celebrate. Valentine’s Day, especially, is one of those holidays that I feel I need to go the extra mile to make the day feel special for my husband… but HOW?! If you’re like me, you might be scrambling to put something nice together for your significant other. I decided to get crafty, with a homemade meal over a cute candlelit dinner table. (Tip: you’ll get bonus points for putting “so much” thought and effort into this!) Now it’s your turn- google a winning recipe, then go down into your storage room and look for some nice wrapping paper and tissue paper (preferably colour coordinated) and bring them up.
Here’s what you’ll need: Wrapping paper, tissue paper, string (thread works), scissors, napkins (paper or fabric), candles, flowers and a design element (See step 4 below).
Total Completion Time: 30 minutes
Step 1: Make your placemats. Flip over the wrapping paper, free-hand (if you dare) and cut out the heart. Trace your new placemat and cut it out… now you have two!
Step 2: Fold your napkins into hearts ❤

Step 3: Make mini tissue flowers:
- Stack four sheets of tissue no bigger than the size of your hand.
- Fold them over like an accordion
- Tie your thread around the middle of your folded piece
- Round out the ends so it gives a scalloped look
- Pull apart the layers & you’re done!
Step 4: Set your table! I used a felt pom-pom garland to jazz up the table but string Christmas lights or fairy lights, extra candles, flower petals or even extra tissue flowers give the same look!
Step 5: Don’t forget your favourite bottle of bubbly!
Now that your table is set, light your candles and surprise your SO with a homemade meal. We promise, this will earn you major brownie points!
Happy Valentine’s Day everyone!
Until my next post,
Jessica ❤
