Designing great spaces comes from making good artistic choices, but it doesn’t end there. It’s about defining how the space is going to be used, the way you design your space truly defines your relationship to and with that space. In this blog, we’ll take you behind-the-scenes as we design The Morningview Retreat.
Initial Consultation and Vision Setting
It started with an extensive consultation of the owners. It was important to know their lifestyle, what they liked and wanted from their new home. Their expectation was to have rooms that would look beautiful but be practical and comfortable for daily use. With contemporary design, organic materials and functionality as our pivot, we knew that we had to step outside the box of traditional home designs.
Concept Development and Planning
We started with Concept Development – creating mood boards, sketches and 3D renderings to conceptualize what it would look like from a design perspective. Selected key elements, colors/ finishes, and materials/textures were operated to allow better design coherence. Our approach involved manipulating natural design, recreating balance between traditional Architecture and a modern home.
Space Planning and Layout
SPACE PLANNING is a key stage of design. The clients wanted to adjust the layout to maximize sunlight and increase outdoor viewing all throughout rooms. Some of the open, airy staircases were aimed to tie together various levels within a home and create an illusion of additional space. The design of the home was thoughtfully considered, from generous kitchen island for hosting guests to quiet bedroom retreats
Selection of Materials and Finishes
Choosing the right materials and finishes is essential in achieving the desired look and feel. We selected high-quality, durable materials that complemented the overall aesthetic. The dark accent walls in the bedrooms, the plush carpeting, and the black herringbone tile in the bathroom were all chosen for their visual impact and ability to create a luxurious atmosphere. Every detail, down to the contemporary lighting fixtures and sleek hardware, was carefully considered.
Custom Furniture and Fixtures
To ensure a unique and personalized touch, we opted for custom furniture and fixtures. The kitchen island, with its contemporary design and functional layout, was custom-built to fit the space perfectly. Similarly, the double vanity in the bathroom and the storage solutions in the mudroom and butler’s pantry were all tailored to meet the specific needs and preferences of the homeowners. These custom elements added a layer of sophistication and exclusivity to the home.
Incorporating Technological Innovations
Modern living demands the integration of technology, and Morningview Retreat is no exception. We incorporated smart home features for convenience and efficiency. From automated lighting and climate control systems to state-of-the-art kitchen appliances, technology was seamlessly integrated into the design to provide a high level of comfort and functionality. Not only does it look aesthetically pleasing but it also enhances functionality of the space.
Attention to Detail
Attention to detail was paramount throughout the entire design process. We ensured that every element, no matter how small, contributed to the overall aesthetic and functionality of the home. The organized mudroom, the charming butler’s pantry, and the cozy bonus room with panoramic mountain views are all examples of how thoughtful details were incorporated to enhance the living experience. This helped in keeping things minimalistic and using external elements to complement the décor of the rooms.
Collaboration and Execution
Executing the design required close collaboration with skilled craftsmen, contractors, and suppliers. We oversaw the construction and installation process, ensuring that every aspect of the design was brought to life with precision and care. Regular site visits and coordination with the project team to ensure integrity of the design and addressing any challenges that arose. We highly recommend using checklists, they make sure everything is well accounted for and nothing is undone.
Final Touches and Styling
The final phase involved adding the finishing touches that make Morningview Retreat truly special. We styled each room with carefully curated accessories, artwork, and textiles that reflected the homeowners’ personality and taste. The result is a home that exudes warmth, elegance, and a sense of belonging.
Conclusion
Every project is different, some follow the same steps as above while others follow a completely different track. It really depends on the size of the project and what our clients needed help with. Designing Morningview Retreat was the perfect blend of creativity, planning, and execution. While our plans reflected exactly what the client wanted, our discussion sessions allowed us to innovate based on client feedback to create something that resonates with our clients. It’s important for you as a client to be transparent and not hesitate in expressing your likings while working with an interior designer because, Hey! That’s your house and you’re going to make a home out of it!
